JAMBAVANTHA, ancestral hero of Madigas, on stage at Ravindra Bharathi, Hyderabad 2006 |
Welcome to this new home page
|
 |
At present
the page leads only to one project in progress. This is a collection of sources on the Madigas, a major Dalit (formerly
'Untouchable') caste belonging to the Telugu-speaking region of eastern South India but today spread much more widely.
Simon Charsley, who is preparing it, is a retired lecturer from the University of Glasgow in Scotland. He has been
collecting and editing evidences of the Madiga heritage with the intention of publishing them as a book. In the meantime this
site will be making the results available as quickly as possible, for Madigas themselves and for others interested in their
past, present and future.
